Ten quick color blocked cards!

It's time for Club Scrap's Surprise Linky Party and Blog Hop!

Earlier this month, Karen posted a color block technique challenge, and I wanted to participate by creating a color blocking card formula with 12x12 papers. If you follow the full recipe, you'll make a total of ten cards with color blocked panels from just five sheets of paper.

The cheerful color palette of the Surprise collection was perfect for this technique. Use Surprise White, Green, Red, Pink, and Blue 12x12s, and follow the cutting instructions carefully. In order for the measurements to work, several panels will be cut at 1/8" measurements.

  1. Place paper in the trimmer with the grain dipping from left to right; cut at 10.5 and 8.5".
  2. Cut the 8.5x12 horizontally at 11".
  3. Trim the 1x8.5 horizontally at 8 and 4".
  4. Cut the 2x12 horizontally at 9.5, 7.125, 4.75 and 2.375".
  5. Trim the 1.5x12 horizontally at 8.25 and 4.125".
  6. Score the 8.5x11 vertically at 4.25".
  7. Trim the 8.5x11 horizontally at 5.5". Fold each piece along the score line to create a card base.
When working with five sheets of paper, you'll save quite a bit of time at step six. You'll complete the scoring for ten cards by only scoring five times!

If you only want to make two cards, simply use one sheet of white paper and alter the colors of the panels with inks, mists, or stamped images.

I chose to use my latest embossing folders, thin cutting dies, sparkle tape, dazzles, self-adhesive rhinestones, and Surprise stamps to complete the cards. Distribute one shape of each color to each card base for lots of colorful fun!

I hope you give my new card formula a whirl and post it to the Linky Party at Club Scrap! (I've even asked Karen to extend the deadline by a week, and she was cool with that.)

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this Tricia. I recently combined all my extra Club Scrap paper and sorted them into color categories, ROYGBP brown, white and black. So it will be real easy for me to pull out 5 different sheets and make 10 cards.
