1. Begin by layering an 11.75x11.75" Burgundy Print onto a 12x12" Dark Green Plain. Matte the featured photo and anchor with a printed border strip.
2. Trim the 8.5x11 Text Weight Print from Club Stamp into strips of different widths.
3. Mark the center of the strip on the plain side of the paper with a Grid Ruler. Use the 45-degree angle guide on the ruler to mark a "v".
4. Cut a "v" into the ends of each patterned strip. Cut the strips in half.
5. Tuck the prepared strips behind the photo. (Nobody will ever know the strips don't run the full length of the layout. Well, just you and me.) Experiment with temporary placement of other embellishments from your stash such as die cuts, punches, ribbons, etc. Some elements didn't make the final cut.
6. Take a photo of your envisioned layout before disassembly so you don't forget the plan. Mark the location of the featured photo to help with embellishment placement. Adhere small objects with Club Scrap's awesome new Glue Pen.
I was inspired to create an embellished layout featuring the fun patterns and colors in this collection. My goal was to do that without detracting from the photo. (It makes me sad when all of the layers of stuff added to a layout make it nearly impossible to see the photograph that inspired it.)
I took a few photographs during the process of creating the page. I guess the key is knowing when to say "when." I'm quite pleased with the final layout made in honor of my girl who will be off to college in five days. Sob.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning page Tricia!! I too am sending Alicia off in 4 days and I don't think it has really hit me yet. I love the die cuts, the pattern paper flags and all of the lovely ways it showcases the photo and the love you have for your daughter!!
ReplyDeleteI love how your daughter is still the star of your layout, even with all the wonderful embellishments, bright colors and patterns! I really feel for you, being so proud of your daughter and yet missing her so much. The years my son was a 10 hour drive away were very difficult and luckily just a memory now.
ReplyDeleteI, too, get frustrated when there are so many embellishments on a page, the photo is no longer the focal point. I love this page! Knowing when to say "when" is definitely key!
